powers on fine, all lights works, reset button works, powers off fine........then back on in about 4 seconds all by itself.

if i "shutdown" windows properly, it doesn't turn back on, but if i'm just in the bios, or turn it off to change boot sequence or something, it turns back on.

this is SO wierd.

any ideas?

thanks

A shot in the dark:

Your power button is set to sleep/hibernate which it is doing when you hit it. A little bump of the mouse or some other event and it wakes right back up.

Another unsupported guess:

Some computers have a BIOS option to auto reboot if it is loses power, like during a storm. I don't know how they figure out the reason for the power loss. Turn the option off.

Turn off WOL and WOR.

Some computers have an option to power on if you press a keyboard key. Turn it off.

hmm just pull the plug out and if it turns back on, then you have a major problem!

but yeah you should look for the power modes in the bios, make sure everything is set so that your computer stays off when its turned off

unplug the computer, and if it turns back on then well your computer is messed up, cuz it has no power going to it and it can still run!
