So apparently my friend's mom got ticketed, by a BART policeman (BART is the train system around here), for stopping in a red zone for about two seconds..even though there were other cars in front and behind stopped for much longer periods.

Ticket was $250 :Q

California must be really desperate for money right now.

Transit police suck. They do in Dallas too. And they carry guns. What are they gonna do, shoot you for not having a ticket to be on the rail? (DART doesnt use turnstyles)

ok i don't understand exactly what she got ticketed for... what's a red zone, how does she drive a train and what does this have to do with cars.

Red zone is supposed to mean no stopping..and she was in a car, next to the train station.

Of course she was technically violating the law, but $250? That's more than like an extreme speeding ticket.

It's that terror alert fear...your friend's mom could have some explosive in the trunk and want to blow up the place by stopping for 10 seconds.

The cop should have just waved her on...made her move...ticketing seems a bit extreme (unless she had left the car unattended)

Hmm...is that what happened? She left the car unattended?

my dad also got a $250 ticket for stopping in a red bus zone for 30 secs to drop off a letter by the mailbox at that corner. it was ridiculous. and there was no bus in sight

Were you there or is this coming 2nd-hand from your friend?

A driver is not going to get a ticket for dropping someone off...esp. if there are other cars present before and after the dropoff.

Methinks 100% of this story is not being told.
