Hmm...exorcisms

So I just saw the trailer for The Exorcism of Emily Rose tonight. Then I did a search, and read the last thread about that trailer. Then I also read the thread from back in March about the Russian exorcism. Overall, though, not TOO much discussion has been done on the topic.

Obviously this Emily Rose thing is based on a true story. If it seemed valid enough to make a serious movie about it, do you nay-sayers REALLY think that the girl was just wacko? And if you do believe in the possiblity of demonic possession, what do you think is the cause? And how do you think it ties in with other religious matters?

The movie is based on a real possesion by a German girl. She died during the exorcism and the priest was subsequently arrested. The Catholic church in a rare instance came out and classified the case as a true possesion. Nay-sayers will say that "possesions" are just based on pyschological issues.

Demonic possesions can happen for any reason. But usually it's because the person is too weak spiritually...or sometimes, it just happens.

"Based on a true story" is a meaningless marketing ploy.

Remember the Blair Witch Project, Amityville Horror, 13th Warrior/Eaters of the Dead? All fake, all "based on a true story." How about that sci-fi channel fake doc on M. Night Shyamalan?

You conveniently left out the most common cause of all:

The person is just COMPLETELY FREAKIN' WHACKED OUT IN THE HEAD, INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE...crazy people can seem to speak in tongues, climb walls, etc. Typically, they just need a good beat down and the Satan in them magically vanishes. Unconsciousness will do that to a person you know...
