Hmm.. at first I thought this was a scam, but..

I found a guy selling brand new OEM FX55's on eBay for $450 (Cheapest on Pricewatch is $799.) Seing as he only had 14 feedback, I figured it was another pointless eBay scam. I saw he lives in Miami, and so do I.. so I asked him if I could pick them up in person. He replied, "If you pay cash no prob".. now, he claims to have 77 of these available.

You think they 'fell off the back of a truck'? Either way, my curiosity has the best of me.. I'm definately gonna go check it out. 🙂

You guys wanna take odds on what's going to happen? I'm either going to walk out of there with an FX-55 on the cheap, or I'm going to get mugged.

Video card? It's a CPU. 🙂

I'll most likely bring two friends of mine, both USMC. Call it "insurance"..

does sound extremely fishy that he has 77 of them...

could you bring some testing equipment to make sure they aren't some sort of dead pulls from OEMs - he may have bought a lot of dead CPUs and is trying to sell them now as working

Well, the only "testing" equipment I could bring is a complete system, install it, and hope for a POST. Although, I seriously doubt he'd let me do that. Hell, I'm not sure I would even let someone do that, too much potential to kill the CPU due to installation.

Its not your businesses how he got them. If they work, and he sells one to you, then leave it at that.

He does guarantee them against DOA, which of course is a moot point if this whole thing is a scam.. but still.

You are bidding on a one (1) x Working AMD Athlon 64 FX55 2.6Ghz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 San Diego processor, OPN#: ADAFX55DAA5BN CABCE 0516WPMW processor. This processors is brand new and guaranteed NOT to be DOA. This processor are OEM and do not come with a heatsink or fan.

he wants cash...

generally speaking it's not a good sign when someone has a high volume of high priced goods and would like cash.

Well, he wants cash if I pick them up.. otherwise, he's taking PayPal thru eBay. Honestly, I don't care how he got them. I just care that he DOES have them and they WORK. As long as I'm not POSITIVE where they came from, it's all the same to me. 🙂

Yea, yea.. I know. Moral fiber and all.. sue me. 😉

This dosent make sense! FX55 are Clawhammer cores. San Diego is FX57. check stepping and everything else before you pick those up. they might be 3200+ for all you know.

that's what I was getting at.

there's no way to feasibly test a desktop CPU and it would be too easy for him to take your cash and disappear. Plus ebay wouldn't care since the transaction happened outside ebay/paypal.

Hrm.. apparently, he's already sold 23 of these. I just checked the Purchases. I think I'll wait for some of those buyers to get theirs and ask them how the transaction went. The majority of buyers have high feedback scores, too -- so they don't look like shill bids.

So he apparently had a total of 100 of these, and has 77 left. That sure is a lot of CPU's..
