Hmm?2gigs of ram does make a difference in HL2.

Before I upgraded my ram from 1 to 2 GB?s, I was told not to expect too much of a difference in any games except BF2. But, I?m glad to say that is not the case. Granted, it?s not a night and day difference but it?s very noticeable none the less. Especially, in those open air levels such as the train station, outdoor air boat levels and the bridge. The game has a much more fluid feel and look to it. This of course makes the levels much more immersive. Would I recommend spending the money just to have HL2 run like water? Well?maybe not. But if you?re like me and getting a late start on starting the adventure and the rest of your hardware is up to the task, take the plunge!

I don't know about 2 GB, but going from 512 to 1 GB made a huge difference for me
