Hm...should I be worried....

I have been using the drive I got from my RMA of my previous drive that lasted me a amazing one month. This one has worked fine so far and I have used seatools to check for errors and none show up.

However, the one thing that has me slightly worried. The hard drive makes the occasional "click". Its pretty much random and not too loud but its definitely there. I am not sure if this is the "Click of death" but I thought that was a more regular click(timing wise).

Does this sound like something I should be wary of?

you didnt say what seagate vers you have - .7 .8 .9 SATA or PATA
(.8's seem to be just a tad flakier)

anyway, one soft click is O.K. several quickly are not good

you can download seatools utility and check drive, including all file systems (complete)
depending on size, may take many hours

Could also be SMART monitoring occasionally kicking in (could turn it off in bios depending on mobo)

Might want to d/l hd temp and watch temps on HDD - I wouldnt run any over mid 20's

the fact you already had one bad, might mean you are doing something wrong during intial format/partition, or have PSU or cabling issues, or power spikes.

I also always mention to never install nvidia SATA IDE drivers, always use SP2 MS

hmm, I have a pata seagate 120gb used as an external usb2 backup drive secured in a 3.5'' enclosure

firmware is 8 something

it does this clicking/buzzing (aka CB) when its idle.
clicking clicking clicking and some other buzzing sound concurrently.

it's never on much, and thousands of gigabytes have passed in/out of it.

I've never had any problems with it, thus far.

edit: it does it more then once every hour.

I can also interrupt the clicking/buzzing (CB) by say, copying some files around on it, and, the CB will instantly stop, but in under 30 or 60 sec after you're done from interrupting it idling, it resumes that CB again.

the CB never seems to last longer then around 65 seconds.

edit: tried online ver of seaTools (has usb support)
but it crashes for "Drive Self Test (DST) " and "generic drive tests" (mxsmrt.dll)

edit: update with time for how long CB isn't active, I stop timing when CB starts again.

1> around 5min:56
2> around 5:58
3> around 5:58.5
4> around 5:57.7
5> around 5:56.4

after all this, I conclude, imo, that it is likely automated, and normal, IF yours does something quite similar to what mine does.
