I don't think he got frustrated, but from the article that over time he became aware that he was helping the researchers.

I'm guessing that whole "your life flashes before your eyes when you die" thing was kind of brief for him.

Wow.....Having studied psychology, and neuro-psych, wow. RIP. The man was one of the main reasons neuroscience took off.

This sort of stuff was explained in my psychology class. Different types of memories are stored in different parts of the brain. HM still had procedural memories, so he could get better at doing things even if he didn't remember doing them.
