I'm using intervideo winDVR to record tvshows now. i set it to use mpeg2 1800kbs with 224kbs mp2 audio. yet when i try to open it in virtual dub it gives me a "mpeg Import Filter: pack synchronization error" Whats up with that? :)

i want to crunch em into divx for easier storage of course:)

no version of virtualdub will edit MPEG2, it will only do MPEG1 and certain avi's

Since the MPEG2 codec requires licensing, any editor, player, recorder that includes the MPEG2 codec must pay royalties on the codec meaning that any MPEG2 editor, player, recorder must include a licenses codec and pay royalty to the MPEG group. So no MPEG2 editor, player, recorder can be free.

How to resolve this, you must acquire an MPEG2 editor for which none are free, or record in MPEG1 for which Virtualdub will be able to edit it.

hm interesting and thanx:) for some reason i assumed vdub would take mpeg 2 since thats what dvd is right? windvr will let me use mpeg 1 instead so i guess i'll use that. its lower quality at the same bitrate right?

ah well:)
