Hm anyone know why virtual dub isn't accepting my mpeg2 files? i use windvr

I'm using intervideo winDVR to record tvshows now. i set it to use mpeg2 1800kbs with 224kbs mp2 audio. yet when i try to open it in virtual dub it gives me a "MPEG Import Filter: pack synchronization error" Whats up with that?

i want to crunch em into divx for easier storage of course

doesn't matter anyways, someone answered in software. seems mpeg2 requires licencing or something so no go mpeg 1 should be fine.
