Sorry if this has been posted a million times. I have a ti4600 in right now. Would I get better performance in HL2 if I traded for a 5600nu or 9600np? Will dx9 support really matter that much in hl2?

the game wont be out for months and months

keep the 4600, it pwns the 9600np easily

wait until hl2 comes out to ask again, that 4600 should last a whilte yet i would think

Keep the 4600 until hl2 comes out then upgrade if you feel you need it. 9800 pro's will probably have come way down in price by then.

Just wait until hl2 comes out. It's futile to upgrade now for a game that won't be out for another 5 months.

I am hanging onto my Ti4600, since there aren't any game out that need more (without AA). I play MaxPayne2, Halo, UT2003, and RTCW without trouble. Those 9700/9800/9800XT have been tempting, but I figure I should wait until I NEED it.

Hold onto that 4600. It'll probably outperform both the 5600 and 9600 in DX8. The 9600 may be able to do DX9 at around the same speed as it can do DX8, but it'll be slower than the 4600 either way. The 5600 is basically limited to DX8 b/c its DX9 performance in abysmal, and it'll probably be slower than the 9600.

Im not a fanboy. I must have not looked, so i did not know he already had a ti4600. what i am saying is, of the 3, the 9600 would be faster in halflife 2, if you have one, dont upgrade to one of the 3.

Ti4600

I would think(from what I've seen in reviews) that a GF4 4600 and 9600 Pro will perform about the same in HL2, the biggest difference would be that the 9600 Pro would have more eyecandy. It's probably best just to keep what you have, by the time HL2 comes out you might be able to get a 9800Pro or XT for cheap.

9600 non pro would od half life 2 better simply because, the ti4600 slows down more then a 9600 with the same amount of eye candy turned on, on low settings a ti4600 would be faster, but 9600 takes alot less of a hit doing high settings, and the 9600 would kick at high res.

It's going to kick at high res with eye candy? Yeah right. The card doesn't have enough gpu power, plus it only has 6.4GB/s bandwidth vs 10.4GB/s on the ti4600.
