HL2 Settings - CPU Limited

I have a great video card and older cpu - any tips for maximizing FPS? What settings are more impacted by the cpu versus the vid card?

What video card and what chip, and what display are you using?

9800 pro 128, p4 1.8, 512 mg RAM. My question is general, I am curious as to what settings rely more or less on cpu vs. gpu. Haven't actually loaded HL2 yet, but I'd like to run at 1024x768 as I do COD, Painkiller, MOH without problems.
