HL2 Retail or Steam?

Topic and summary says it all.

I like tangible items. I'm more than likely to buy the retail version of Half-life 2 than Steam. But my main questions is this: If I buy the regular retail version, would I get CS:Source and Day of Defeat: Source? I would imagine you would with the collectors edition, but I'm not interested in paying 80 smackers for nerd clothes.

Thanks in advance,
Woo

First, stop hitting enter below your posts.
Second, use the search function.
Third, I cant wait.
Fourth, DOD:S will not be with the retail, CS:S will be because it is the only multiplayer aspect of HL2

I did Steam silver package. I want to play it the second it's released. I'm too lazy to run to the store.

I was debating this too. I also like buying retail versions of games. However, the $50-$55 price tag for the retail version doesn't include DoD:Source or HL:Source (which I want), and the $80 collector's edition is just too darn expensive (and still doesn't include DoD:Source).

I'm going Silver Package from Steam on this one. $59 for HL2, CS:S, DoD:S, and HL:Source - you can't beat it. You can even make a backup of the downloaded software on CD or DVD if you want. Can't really justify buying a retail version of this game.

I orderd the CE when it was $59 at Walmart. I can careless for DoD since I never play it, and I want the game on a media, so when I reformat (which I may do more often than others) I don't want to wait a long time to download the game.

Once you download the game over steam you can burn the files onto a CD or DVD.

Utterly wrong. I hate CS players.
DOD:S is not retail.
TFC:S, which Valve said would ship with HL2, is not shipping with HL2 at all. Typical of Valve to screw over the game that predated CS.
And you can pretty much forget about NS:S.

Edit: Valve says TF2 is in development, but who knows? CS2, according to all reports, will be rightfully after TF2.

I think that either modeps misworded himself, or you misunderstood him. By saying it's the only multiplayer aspect of HL2, he means that CS:S is the official multiplayer component for HL2. It's just different from other games because it actually has a completely seperate name for it.

There are other aspects of multiplayer for HL2, it's just that buying the retail version will only give you CS:S for multiplayer out of the box.

I had no problems compressing all of the GCF files (~7.90gb ) down to just under 4gb!

See. < That is after buying the Silver Package and preloading HL2

I was in the same dilemma about wanting the game on cd or dvd and the box ...etc but I am not paying $54 for a game (not even DVD either) when for $5 more I can get 2 more games that I had to have (DOD:S and HL:S)

I sure as hell was not paying $79 for the CE, the package sucks compare to what you can get in Gold.
