You can specify alternate rendering paths by using the following commandline switch: -dxlevel xx, where xx is 90 for DirectX 9, 81 for DirectX 8.1, 80 for DirectX 8.0 and 70 for DirectX 7.0.

Taken from AnandTech review; nothing on DirectX 6.0 but you could try 60.

If you don't even have a dx7 card, you don't meet the requirements for ANY new games. Are you using onboard or something?

Lowest I heard was DX7, and I was amazed at that.
I tried it once for sh!ts and giggles.
Looks like crap, but ran well. I guess its good for troubleshooting. Not many people would try to run HL2 on a DX7 card.

Also saw pics of the guy who ran Doom 3 on a VooDoo 2. Looked like a can of smashed ass. Worse than Quake 2 in software mode. But it ran OK.

DX7 is very old mode. Video cards 5 years ago were dx7.
