HL2 Mod Leader Commits Suicide

Apparently "nickster", the leader of the Half Life 2 mod Goldeneye Source, committed suicide a few days ago.

I thought that this was some sort of hoax, but after having read the obituaries, I think we can see that it is pretty real.

Here is the last paragraph that he wrote before he pulled the plug:

"And finally there is a part of me that is really looking forward to finding out the answer to one of life's great mysteries. Is there life after death? What is out there? So many people go about their daily lives unconcerned with the fact that they are nothing more than an ant upon a huge rock flying through a universe so large it can't even be imagined. The universe is so vast, what is my part to play in this thing called life? Nobody knows for sure what happens to our souls when we depart this plain of existence. I am going to find out. I think it's going to be something both unimaginable and great. I will see you on the other side.

i downloaded the mod just because i heard this. he's done a pretty good job.

That is very sad, 27 is far too young. People with depression should get it treated.
 
Nick, if you can read/hear this, it is plane not plain.

I do feel very sorry for him, my sister has been clinically depressed since 16 or so, still takes meds for it I believe...but yah, very very debilitating.

He should have been a man and gone outside and done that. I think that if you are going to commit suicide, you should at least not bother others by doing so.

He killed himself by carbon monoxide poisoning. How can you do that outside, you need an enclosed space.

Dang, that's too bad.

Goldeneye Source was looking promising. I never understood why they are trying to make a goldeneye mod for HL2 AND UT2k4, why try and make a mod for two totally different games at the same time? Seems like a dumb thing to do, and certainly slows down progress of the mod. Ah well.
 
Wow...his reason to kill himself to see what is in the universe sounds like a bad excuse. It will happen anyways, so you might as well enjoy life "here" as much as possible because it isn't like you won't "discover things" the way he puts it.. sad 🙁

Sometimes I wonder why others in 3rd world countries struggle so hard to live and survive, whereas people here just want to give up...no matter hwat happens our life is easier.

I read the post his dad made on the Goldeneye messageboard, I think that paragraph was from a larger note he left... so I don't think that was his sole reason to do it.

I agree with your second point...
