What rock have you been living under?

The one where there is no skipping from dual-core? I never encountered it.

Not that rock, the rock where everyone's heard of the glitches and AMD/Microsoft made Drivers/Utils/Hotfixes to correct them.

edit: spelling

I remember people having those problems with HL2 on any machine regardless of spec when it first came out. did you update the game through steam?

we have this threads every once in a while.

HL2/Source engine has those problems *ever since*...its extremely sensitive to things like a properly defragged HD.....the hitches come mainly from loading sound-files. Means. the first time a sound is loaded until it's cached.

Even on my sys i get those hitches once in a while...the ONLY thing you can TRY is kinda involved...this is rebuilding the soundcaches for the whole HL2

******************

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Soundcache

This explains how to rebuild soundcaches in HL2 - which might help too.

Edit: Skip that "crate maplist.txt"...the game already has one - so the above does basically go thru each level, loads the map, pre-loads the sounds and generates new cache files. (Well, yeah, kinda advanced stuff...but i find it's interesting)

HOWEVER, under normal circumstances you should NOT have significant problems if your HD is defragged and you have plenty ram....EXCEPT every first time when something gets loaded from HD

**************

Otherwise, you might havr to live with the minor hitches.....know at least they should only appear the first time when something's loaded and then not anymore. (???) SOurce-engne is good, fast, but not perfect....

EDIT: i posted all that already in this thread earlier....didnt realize it's the same thread :)

It's a dual-core glitch - set HL2 to just use one core through processor affinity.

Ok, i'll give that a try. How do i do this?

Nvm, found it in the task manager. I tried it, doesn't seem to be helping much. Still the slight stuttering when i move quickly and look around.

Look at your HD-access light...is it always stuttering when you see the HD doing something ?

Also...get one of the many HL2 tweak guides...and play around with the countless settings for cache etc...just google "hl2 tweak guide" etc...
