HL2 CTD Problems already

When selecting a new game, I'm getting a map error, then a CTD, followed by a memory reference error. Anyone else currently experiencing this?

I had Steam downloading Half Life 2 while I played another video game.. and low and behold, my computer tells me it's going to reboot in 60 seconds just like the Blaster worm would do.. Steam is the only thing I added to this computer in a week or so.

Now I'm paranoid... ARGH.

*cough* never ever had a problem with it..
only real reason to have it on your computer at all is if you didn't order a hard copy of HL2...

actually, don't you need steam whether you ordered it online or in from a store? everyone has to activate through steam...
