I was running my system fine on my Antec True430 430 watt psu when i had my 6800GT (380/1100) installed. I recently traded some money and my GT to a friend for a new 6800 Ultra. Initally I had issues with the screen flickering in windows, which I attributed to low power. I switched from using 2 molex on 1 cable to 2 molex on 2 cables and it solved the problem.

However, a new issue has now come up. After about 20 minutes of half life 2 deathmatch, the game will start to freeze. It will recover from the freeze a few times, then it will freeze one final time and i will BSOD. Windows will tell me I had a critical error in the Nvidia video drivers and that the cause was unknown.

Is this being caused by my power supply? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a pcp&c to put an end to my problems, but I want to make sure it is worth my money first. Thanks!

Specs:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Athlon 64 3500+ (newcastle)
eVGA 6800 Ultra (latest bios and video drivers installed)
2x Western Digital Raptor 10,000 rpm WD740s
1x Seagate 200gb 7200.7
Antec True430 PSU
2 DVD+-RW drives
1gb Ballistix RAM (2.8v 2-2-2-5)
NO overclocking (yet)

Yeah....I'd go with a Powerstream 520, Fortron 530, or a PC P&C. Though I think the PC P&C is a bit overkill...

12v only has 20 Amps. I think it's just getting beat to hell with 3xHDD, 2xODD, 6800 Ultra, and I'm sure some case fans.

People gotta start figuring this out - amperage is just as important, if not moreso, than wattage these days.

ok... I disabled fastwrites in bios and tried to play... had the exact same problem :(

new psu time?

EDIT: The problem seems to be getting worse. I now crash in CounterStrike: Source which worked ok before :(

I've done some looking around on the OCZ modstream, it seems pretty nice. The Antec True550 also seems good. Is it worth the extra $100 for pc power and cooling?

I would go with the Powerstreams over the Modstreams but I'll post the best prices I can find for both:

Powerstream 420w can't remember who, but someone ran an insane setup like yours with this and it ran stably Max output is 520w: http://directron.com/ocz420adj.html

Powerstream 520w if you feel you need the extra juice, Max output is over 600w: http://directron.com/ocz520adj.html

Powerstream 600w if you want to do overkill: http://www.excaliberpc.com/pro...o.php?products_id=4285

Modstreams:

450w: http://www.monarchcomputer.com...tegory_Code=ps-generic

520w: http://www.monarchcomputer.com...tegory_Code=ps-generic

Try different memory settings. May seem unrelated but almost everytime I've had game crashes was related to the memory.

Had that problem initially with this setup, but I solved it and the ram was running quite stable when I had my GT installed.

Do you have any fans sharing either of the leads going to the video card? Most fans send noise back into the p/s lead, and can cause serious problems with some devices. Try putting your fans on a lead with your optical drives, and share the video leads with only HDD's. Also, try using one lead to the video card, not sharing it with anything.

With all of the stuff you're running, I'd sure suspect that you need more amperage, but it could be something sending noise to the card.

Assuming the raptors have the os and games on them.
Unplug the power from the other hardrive and 1 of the dvd drives.
Just have one optical drive and the raided drives hooked up. Plus the motherboard and video card. If the raptor doesn't have the os on it. Then unplug them instead. Reduce the power supply load.

What kind of voltage readings you got? I really doubt it's the power supply. Since you had a 6800GT that worked fine.
