I believe (translation I read it somewhere and am too tired to doublecheck so it may be total lie) that is pulled from an ATI presentation. If true, then according to ATI, ATI cards rule in Half-Life 2. Doh.

Ive seen benches that put the 6800 Ultra well over the X800XT so I dont really trust anyone.

One thing is for sure though , it always seems only the most expensive cards play the newest games decent and none can really play them perfectly.

The game will probably look its best in action a few years from now.

Those bm's are crap....however, I have no doubt that when some REAL benching gets done, ATI will hold the crown pretty easily. But, the 6800's will hold it in every other game--while still performing great in HL2. :)

i was kinda of the impression that with the notable exception of d3 the x800pe was the faster kard overall...and from every bench i've seen the x800pe whopped the 6800u for the cs:source test in much the same way that it got 0wned by the 6800u in d3...but i could be very wrong and merely talking bs so go figure :D

(The 6800u extreme really doesnt count: at least from what i read on Toms a while back only about 200 were actually made, and nvidia now denies they were ever made at all...go figure again :) )

Actually, for your amusement here's a quote from the article
'Nvidia's GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme, which was announced by the company one day after ATI's X800 XT PE, never became available on the market; we only saw the card up for auction briefly on one website in August. A spokesperson from Nvidia claimed later that the card never officially existed, and that the name "Ultra Extreme" had been a fabrication of the media.'

Classic vapourware stuff :p

with the new 4.12 catalysts, those benches are VERY real. ati HL2 dominates with these drivers.
