Yesterday, an update was released via Steam to address the audio stuttering issue.
Did it solve the issue for you, if you were someone who previously had the stuttering?

To answer my own post; the new patch reduced audio stuttering by about 50% for me.
Pls note that in the first place, my only audio stuttering was in the really heavy scenes you get in the second half of the game. Big battles involving lots of actors, sounds, explosions, objects, etc. Like the ones in Anticitizen One. It's one particular scene in AC1 which I use as a benchmark for stuttering. Pre-patch; stutters about 5 times throughout the battle. Post-patch; only stuttered once or twice.

I should note that last night, after the patch, I went and installed my new Audigy 2 ZS. As expected, now even those few stutters in that big battle were reduced to a very minimal level. Comparable to other games now. Very nice. ;)

For reference, the battle I am referring to is the one which takes place right before "something" happens to Alyx. It's in an outdoor "plaza" type area in the city, Alyx is busy hacking a computer, while Combines attack from the left and right streets. You have about 2-3 resistance fighters as backup.

When exactly does the stuttering occur?

I finally got around to purchasing HL2 last night but haven't really had any audio stuttering issues. Steam did download an update yesterday, so that must have been the HL2 hotfix I assume.

I got rid of the stuttering by going to a 2 speaker setup withing the game. But that was before I just upgraded my computer with among other things, an Audigy 2 ZS.

reinstall what?

the game or the OS?

personally, i'm just gonna set HL2 aside for awhile (since i finished it) and WAIT till the damn thing is fixed and then replay it . . . .

Chronicles of Riddick is my new game and seems quite good (including very very good gfx - better character models then either Doom iii, HL2 or FC) . . . . . PLUS is isn't buggy and the gameplay is good. :)

i detest buggy Steam and their requirements for a 'net connection . . . . Hl2 is (definitely) NOT the GotY. :p
