i just put together my new system. specs are as follows: amd athlon 64 3500+ 90nm, BFG 6800GT, MSI Neo2 Platinum, 1GB OCZ PC-4000, Seagate Barricuda 80GB SATA, Seagate Barricuda 80GB ATA.

installed all of the steam games and every game freezes with the exception of counter strike 1.6 and condition zero. I can barely even get HL2 running. It keeps freezing for periods of 6-15 seconds at a time. Same thing happens with Half life, Half life Source, and CS:Source. Could there be an issue with the sound drivers that i'm using?

I installed Call of Duty to test it out and it runs great with no problems.

I'm using the latest bios, windows updates, and drivers for everything including the VGA card and Sound card. Its onboard 7.1 sound. Realtek AC97 Audio Drivers (version 5.10.00.5760) which is the latest version.

Or what else should i take a look at?

I'm running 2.5-3-3-8 1T with my memory and 5x200=1000fsb as far as the cpu. i've tried to use 4x200 and that didnt help. i've tried different memory timings and that didnt solve anything either.

Any suggestions guys? Maybe someone with this board has these similar problems?

The games are literally unplayable. It feezes about 97% of the time as soon as the game loads. I cant even get into options or have a chance to move the mouse :(

well you know what, at the moment i dont have a floppy drive but i mean i can go grab one from another system i have. I have the latest bios for the motherboard, and it actually comes with the latest bios anyways so i dont see where that matters. Are you suggesting i use an older version? I'm currently using version 1.4 from MSI's Live Update and yes, i did update the bios through windows. Thankfully it was successful.

What do you mean read up, is there something i'm suppose to know that i dont??

I don't think a new video card BIOS will help you.

installed all of the steam games and every game freezes with the exception of counter strike 1.6 and condition zero. I can barely even get HL2 running. It keeps freezing for periods of 6-15 seconds at a time. Same thing happens with Half life, Half life Source, and CS:Source. Could there be an issue with the sound drivers that i'm using?

a) why do you suspect the sound?

b) did you try running with the sound disabled (turn it off at the device level if you can't turn it off in-game)?

I guess it kinda seemed everytime a certain sound came up, it seemed to freeze. I'm gonna to try something really quick with the sound and then get back to you guys very shortly here.

This is very odd. I dont think it is the sound, but i think i'm going to try some older drivers for the video card and see if that does anything

well it turned out that disabling fast write in bios solved it. heh thanks fellas
