After reading an internet report which claimed HL2: Aftermath would be released on the 24th of April while HL2: Platinum would be available much earlier, on the 28th of January, I decided to e-mail Valve Software's Doug Lombardi in order to ask for a confirmation. This is the response I received (many thanks to Doug):

We're currently targeting April 24th for the release of both Aftermath and Platinum.

Platinum will include HL2, HL2 DM, CS: Source, DoD: Source, and Aftermath.

It looks like the Platinum edition will be a great choice for Half-Life 2 newcomers. As for Aftermath itself, you have a few more months available in order to save up enough pennies for its purchase. Make sure that you stay tuned on Mod HQ for any more developments on this and any Half-Life 2 related matter!

No, HL2 didn't necessarily come with DoD, depending on what version you bought.

Bought retail last time, definitely pre-loading and buying via Steam this time...

Same here. I think I've lost one of the 20 something CDs that were in the box.
