[UPDATE] Valve confirms that the Half-Life 2 expansion is missing its November launch window.

Of all the PC games in the fourth-quarter release avalanche, few were as awaited as Half-Life 2: Aftermath. Though it only had a tentative November target window, it had the cachet of being the expansion pack to Half-Life 2. The top-rated and best-selling shooter was among the most anticipated games of 2004, namely because it had built up hype and expectations by being delayed for over a year.
Now, it appears the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Today, fan site halflife2.net published part of an e-mail exchange it had with Doug Lombardi, director of marketing at HL2 developer Valve Software.

"Just wanted to give you a quick update on Aftermath, specifically its ETA," Lombardi told the site. "We're working very hard to finish this new episode for HL2, however, it's going to take us a bit more time to get it into top shape. As such, the target release for this one is now Feb/March of next year."

[UPDATE] When contacted by GameSpot, Lombardi confirmed the delay, calling the halflife2.net story "accurate. "

For more on Aftermath, check out GameSpot's Q&A with Robin Walker, one of the expansion's lead designers.

Good. That means I have more time to upgrade.
Upgrade for what, as long as you can play HL2 decently, you'll be fine.

Oh my ****** god, 3-4 MONTHS extra? WTF kind of delay is that?

Just read the fine details.

This is too big of a delay now... when they talk about March.

That's fine with me, I have way too many games to finish now as it is. Between the PS2 and the PC, I have quite a back-log of games.

God. My three most anticipated games:

HL2 Aftermath
The new Zelda (GC)
Civ 4

At least one of them came out on time.

People are so dramatic. I say, let them take as long was they want to make their best game. Besides, there are TONS of great games out there right now and until x-mas....

I would've been Ok, with, "We'll release it when it's finished" or if they delayed it for 1 month or something, but 3-4 months when we get close to the release date. That's wack.

Lost Coast brought my computer to its knees (P4 2.8, 1GB, Radeon 9800 Pro). I'm upgrading primarily for Oblivion though, which is also delayed so I have plenty of time now.

Half-Life 2: Aftermath Delay = Honestly not surprising to me
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Delay = Very surprising to me
S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow Of Chernobyl Delays = It's now priceless
