What's the difference between the standard edition and colletor's edition? They have the same game contents, right?

Thanks for the post, I pricematched my local microcenter to my much closer best buy and saved 36 miles of driving!

The collector's edition has HL: Source on it in addition to "making the game" memorabilia. Whoopdy. DoD seems to be a Steam-purchased exclusive for now. It's also on one DVD vs. multiple CDs.

do not get the collectors edition.
Like a dumass, im thinking,"hmmm 25 xtra bucks gets me a dvd version with hl original remix, t shirt and the prima guide..well the prima guide is worth 20 on its own, what the hell".

Well, it is not the full guide just some excerpts, about the size of some post cards stuck together.
The packaging is extremely cheesy for an 80 "collectors box", the dvd is in a reg jewel case..
They could not have made this any cheaper.
Bravo vivendi, take a top flight game and squeeze all the xtra pennies you can, esp from yer most loyal customers. Yes i bought it for the game, but damn this packaging pisses me off.

The days of awesome packaging and extra goodies like MechWarrior 2's manual are long dead, unfortunately. Remember when they said the move towards these tiny boxes would help bring the cost of the games down? Bwhahahaah.....

Yea I can't believe the normal non-collectors edition comes with the 5 discs in CD sleeves, and they do not even give you a instruction booklet. All you get is a card with a list of the buttons. I mean its not like I really need a instruction booklet, but for $54.99 you would think this game would at least have a CD case and not some paper sleeves, and a owners manual... Valve is really being cheap this time around.

This was a bad idea for me personally. It was 39.99 plus 4.99 shipping plus 3.87 tax came out to almost $50.

Ordered through yesasia.com $39.99 shipped!

Do the boxed copies of HL2 allow you to buy DoD and the rest of the software that comes with steam silver package?

That is what I successfully did last night. When to CrapUSA with the MC pricing and they pricematched to 39.82 plus the Mail in rebate for the $10 gift card. Net of 29.82 plus Tax. Pretty hot deal!
