HL/CS+R8500= me crying alot

When I play CS/HL my computer wont change the resolution. So for example if I am playing Cs @ 1280x1000 (something like that) and my desktop is at 1600x1200, it will be 1600x1200 with a square that is CS in the middle. I got the lastest drivers( I am running Win 98 SE) and DX 8.1b. The radeon worked fine b4 I reformated. I also tried Quake 3 and it works fine.

P.S. I didnt use the CS/Hl ati fix. Should I have? I did not think it would need it. I cant find it

I always had problems that I couldn't fix with the 8500 on CS. I applied every patch, tried different drivers, tried tweaking it, nothing worked. If I went above 1024 X 768 (my desktop res) I'd only see part of the picture.

i noticed that too. i just run at 1024x768.

I had the same problem... 1280x960 resolution (the res you're talking about in CS) isn't supported by the native ATI drivers. I switched to the Omega drivers and it worked perfectly since he adds that resolution to the .inf file when installing. I believe you could also get this to work with ATI drivers if you edit the .inf file before installing them... but don't quote me on that, I've never done it myself and I'm not entirely sure how it works. Omega drivers are here.

I tried opengl, direct3d, and the omega drivers, but nothing helped mine.

I am using OpenGl and am installing the omega drivers now.
