What's the difference between HL 2 collector's edition and HL 2 standard edition?

HL2 Gold Package

I think the Gold package offered by Steam and the CE are essentially the same.

- Counter-Strike:Source
- Half-Life 1: Source*

- Valve's back catalog available on Steam.
- PLUS: HL2 posters, full strat guide, soundtrack, hat, collector's box, postcard & more

he asked about the collectors edition, the one sold in store, not on steam. its got a bigger box, DVD instead of 5 CD's, couple chapters of the making-of and strategy guide i think. I remember reading its not a full book. also i'm not sure if you get a tin can or not.

Retail does not include the back catalog of games. Retail CE has a shirt, GOLD has a hat. No DOD:S on retail packages either.

Gold has hat, soundtrack, and three posters as well, full strat guide... postcards.. and DOD:S

CE has XL Shirt, a sampler book ( one chapter of strat gudie and a few pages from Raising the Bar), CS:S and HL2. No DOD:S

He asked the what the differences were. He didn't ask if DOD:S was worth it or how good it was.
