HIV Vaccine is showing promise in humans

these sort of tailor made vaccines may be the only way to go against viruses. will be very expensive though. Dendritic cells are the work horses of innate immunity. I love the idea of having ones cells removed for 'supercharging' and then have them return to help their little brothers out!

I'm still waiting for them to come up with a vaccine for stupidity. There are soooo many more stupid people tha people with AIDs or HIV.
Stupidity kills.

I wonder if some day we will develop anti-virus medication. i hope so.

I'm picturing a big red and yellow pill with "Norton 2034" written on it

it's says it reduces the HIV level by 90%. so while they can live a relatively normal life, they can still infect people.

Exactly, the problem I see is that since people will live their whole life with it, they will spread it more.

They won't if you put them in a bubble, like the "bubble boy" in Seinfield.

LOL, you would think education would fix the problem but ignorance seems to rule the day

Eventually, if we cannot find a vaccine to cure AIDS, we will learn that drastic measures must be taken. Education is working to an extent, but will never fix the problem entirely.

Wow. This is great! So many lives would be saved.

I don't have HIV or anything, but I'm very excited that such a vaccine is being researched. It killed 90% of the viruses + stopped the T-cells from dropping. With no drops, the immune system is still effective, and the virus is no longer fatal. I wonder if the T-Cell count actually rises closer to "normal" (non-HIV) levels after medication? That would be interesting.

From what I read, it has to be done on an individual level (not just some pill you can take). The process might be expensive, but the materials needed is pretty cheap (some dead HIV + blood). I really hope this could be widespread soon.

Thanks for the post Ilmater.

They're getting close. So far they have invented these things called books.

You use them to whack against the person's head when they do something stupid.

They should genetically re-engineer the current HIV strain so it doesn't use T cells for replication, instead attacks the original HIV virus. Infect HIV patients with this, and basically have a civil war that ends up in a stalemate.

Not as long as the herpes is still around. It may not kill you, but man is it disgusting (thought I had it once, lots of research, considered cutting penis off/priesthood, not a cool thing to have).

Nope, the medicines they already have today almost completely stops the spreading, that´s why they would do a difference in Africa, since they have a problem with people who knows they´re HIV positive but still countinous to spread it. If a person with HIV infection takes his medicines, then there´s only a 1-2% or so chance of infecting some one else during an unprotected intercourse.

but thats 90% in the first year - this or a better derivative of it may allow the body to completely kill HIV.

Now we need the same for herpes.

Just my non-professional opinion here, and you can call me a conspiracy-theorist, but I have a feeling we won't see a true cure for this until it hits the bigwigs. Once AIDS knocks off a few of the Forbes 500 guys and a couple of senators, *then* we'll see true research.

Stupidity kills.

While there is no vaccine, there is a cure. And injection of 9mm to the head.

Wrong. The 9mm Vaccine isn't 100% effective when not used on vital organs. 😛

education?

they gave a cure already...

do you think most people in this country aren't aware of HIV?

It's like telling a smoker they'll die from smoking.

There are many unfortunate souls who received HIV unknowingly from their "safe" partners...the others? well, thats another story.
