The bible thumpers would never allow this pill to cume to fruition.

Wtf? Why?

Better yet, why do people always find a way to integrate politics or religion into every discussion?

Actually, the Religious Right did try to stop the HPV/cervical cancer vaccine recently... claiming it's success would lead to increased sexual activity.

I have no doubt they would make an even bigger stink over an HIV vaccine or preventative treatment.
I was about to post the same thing.

Yeah, the Religious Right is of the opinion that if a disease is transmitted primarily by sexual activity then the only acceptable disease control is abstinence. They are, of course, blissfully ignoring the prospect of other disease transmission methods or *gasp* rape. Amazing.

Frankly, I think the RR will make the same argument they've made with the HPV vaccine, just that this time around there will be a lot more push against them, hopefully enough for some regulatory body to grow a sack, step up and say, "hey f%$#wit, we need to wipe this disease out, and this vaccine will do it. Everyone is going to get this vaccine, it is not going to be optional and I don't care what moral bulls%$# you pull," then steal one of the RR's favorite sayings and end it with, "and if you don't like it you can leave the country any time you want."

That is, provided it actually works.

yes, because rape is as common as consensual sex:disgust:

dont get me wrong - i'm all for the elimination/prevention of HIV/AIDS. but at the same time, probably a significant amount of dumb people would take such a medicine as a license to fvck like rabbits.

Good for them. Gets them out of the gene pool.

Regardless of how common rape is, I'm sure those statistics will be of great comfort to a 14 year old girl who was raped by an HPV positive perv but didn't get the vaccination because mommy and daddy said it was evil.
