Can't believe how quickly this game fell in price.

This game has a lot of mixed reviews. What's that all about?
It is a sequel to the older Hitman games. It isn't that much of a departure from them, where you want to kill a target without being seen, and make it look like an accident. Of course, you can also just kill everyone in sight, but you are graded on how silently you do it.

Edit: I read your question wrong. I thought the game was good, and jived well with the previous games in the series. I am not sure why some reviews didn't like the game. Perhaps they felt it should be more like Assassins Creed?

I think Square Enix is desperate for money. It's a really good game; better than it's plummeting sale price would lead you to believe.

Some people are upset that it's not exactly the same as Blood Money.

Isn't there actually a level where there's no killing? The previous games were "objective here, you're here. Pick guns, go."

This one when I played at PAX Prime...just felt awful. I'd rather replay Hitman 2. Enemies spotted me in disguise right away...stealth just didn't exist. If this is considered good these days...how far expectations have fallen.

I went through the whole game never being seen, so I disagree that stealth doesn't exist. The game isn't perfect by any means, but it definitely allows for the use of stealth, and definitely rewards you for it as well.

Yup. IIRC you can go almost the entire game without killing anyone. The only difference this time is that putting on a disguise isn't completely OP anymore, and enemies will still get suspicious of you if they look at you hard enough.

At PAX, I seem to remember putting on a disguise and walking at a distance past a guy. He spotted me instantly. Maybe that was a non-final build, but I remember trying a few times and finding that it wasn't that fun. But they also didn't have any info there for you to show you how to play, so I didn't even use the new instinct mode or whatever.

Hitman Absolution tries to be a little more realistic regarding the way disguises are handled, compared to the previous games. If you dress up in security guard clothing, and an enemy security guard looks at you, he won't recognize you as one of his peers and he'll get suspicious almost instantly.

Not so much for other types of enemies in a "different group" than the ones you're dressed up as. They won't get you in trouble as quickly, but if their eyes linger on you for too long, they'll still get suspicious.

The game puts more emphasis on hiding, using cover, and making distractions/redirections. You can't just put on a costume anymore and instantly be able to walk freely wherever you want. If you do decide to walk around in plain sight, you still have to be extremely tactful, and you have to make sure the wrong people don't lay eyes on you.

And yes, using "instinct" is critical when disguised. Sometimes you have to use it as a last resort when enemies are about to spot you. When done correctly, Agent 47 will casually put his hand over his face, pull his hat down, or brush his forehead so people can't get a good look at him. It's a neat mechanic IMO and it requires a different playstyle than the older titles in the series.

I thought Hitman: Absolution was a really good game. It had great level design (and locations), the mechanics were well balanced, and it was rather challenging too. While different than the Splinter Cell series, it was reminiscent of Chaos Theory in the level of immersion I had while playing it.

That said, re-spawning at a checkpoint causes EVERY enemy to respawn - even the ones in areas behind you. It's a weird design choice, if you ask me, and a glaring flaw in an otherwise great game.
