The whole world building thing was pretty cool.

Kind of had to think like a kid, but if you don't take it crittically, it was a really fun movie to watch🙂

The robot wasn't funny at all imo, along with malkovich.

Surprisingly, the guy who played arthur and mos def were great.

The beginning of the movie was hysterical/\.
The robot was supposed to be a paranoid android, not manic-depressive. Paranoid people/bots are funny, depressed people aren't.

Spoken like a person that's never read the books. Despite being called a "paranoid android" Marvin only has a small sense of paranoia. He was however depressed 24/7. The guy doing the voice of Marvin captured him perfectly. I thought Trillian and Zaphod were the characters that really missed the mark. Trillian had to be sexy and smart, I pictured her more like a Jennifer Garner Alias type, not as a ditzy blond. And Zaphod had to be a mix of suave cool and total bemusement, kind of like a cross between Frank Sinatra and Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap. Instead he got played too manic.

Agreed.
<--- Currently reading the books again...4th or 5th time. Once I start, I can't put them down.

meh just watched it. slow, tacky, horrible dialog, poor acting, never ever funny, and looks cheap as hell. dunno what they were thinking. its like a bad space movie from the 70's or something. over all it had a childrens tv show type feeling. drop in kermit or big bird and they'd fit right in. and colin farrels american accent... ack. not sure how u can make a light hearted story after billions of people are wiped out at the start😛

If you've read the books, you'll know that the movie was a horrible murder of the books. However, if you haven't read the books, the movie's pretty good.

I wouldn't go that far. The original books were taken from a radio play after all. Each rendition has it's place.

I prefer the original BBC Television production over the movie.
IIRC, the book was before the radio play

The story was both a radio play and a television series before it was a book. Each version is different, and each, if you liked the previous, would qualify as a "total rape" of its predecessor.

My favorite version is the first radio play, followed immediately by the book, then the movie.

Well, since the books were nothing like the radio show, which was nothing like the TV series, which was nothing like the second radio series, which was nothing like the other movie version...

ZV

Um wasn't the radioshow simply a reading of the books?

I think one of the most interesting things I found in The Salmon of Doubt was that David Gilmour played Wish You Were Here at Adams' funeral. Think about that for a bit.

Oh, and the movie was crap.
