Unless my sarcasm meter is in need of batteries you will be flamed by every nerd, geek and sci-fi lover in the known world in the next 30 minutes.

With that said, I will see it. The fact that they used muppets for the aliens in the movie instead of CGI makes me warm and fuzzy. I just hope they don't cut too much out of the story and they kept most of the original humor.

My judgement will be reserved until I see it.

I'm hoping it's not going to be like most film conversions where it ends up sucking! ;)

Why is this a 'nerd' movie?

just because it started as a good text adventure game.....

It started as a radio series on the BBC starting 1978.

It will be different from the books, the same way that the books were different from the radio series. Douglas Adams had a strong hand in the movie before he passed away and he acknowledged that HHGTTG was an evolving storyline that was supposed to change over time. Don't like for it to match the books word for word but the general plot line will be the same.
If you haven't already, get your hands on the BBC radio broadcasts, they're great.

Yes, yes they are. I actually played the Infocom text game on my Apple IIc, then read the books, then saw the BBC series, then finally heard the radio series. The first time I saw the BBC series I had to drive clear across town to the only video rental store that had it.

since adams helped write it...and then died before they finished, it makes me wonder if they changed anything since then....but it looks like it shoudl be decent anyway.

For anyone who doesn't know, it's being handled by the two head guys at Hammer and Tongs (http://www.tongsville.com/) so you can go there to check out some of their other work if you're curious. They did the entertaining video for Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now"
