hey dudez.. i was wondering whether i should buy the hitachi 7k60 or wait for the seagate 7200 rpm HDD?? do u thnk the seagate has an advantage over the hitachi and if so why?????? also any idea when the seagate will come in the market?

cheers

I just replaced my 2nd dead hitachi notebook drive.. haven't replaced a Seagate yet.
that would be enough for me to wait for the Seagate.

well I just love Seagate anyways so I'd probably get them even if I hadn't replaced a Hitachi drive. Seagate is awesome.

i love my hitachi 7k60, and we've been putting them in our laptops since they came out several months ago and havnt had any dead laptops come back (200 or so laptops)

I think any speed difference between the Hitachi and the new Seagates will be minimal. The advantage for waiting for a Seagate would be the other size options that Seagate will offer. Supposedly Seagate will be releasing those 7200rpm notebook drives at 80Gb? and 100Gb options also. Hmmm....100Gb notebook drive seems like a worthy upgrade from that 60Gb. 😉

As far as release dates, I HEAR that they should be coming out by the end of the summer but I don't work for Seagate so take that with 'a grain of salt'.

doh... the thing is... that im gonna be leaving the US to go back ( middle east ) on approx 25th august.... dont have any 7200 rpm notebook hdd's back in the place where i live.. so i was hoping that the seagate ( i need the extra hdd space 😛 ) would come in the market before end of august so i could buy it before i leave

neways thanks much for ur help dudez

meh, IMHO its not worth spending an extra $100 for another 20-40 gigs of storage on a laptop drive. If you absolutly need the space, an external drive is more worth your money. Buy a 200 gig drive for around $100, and a $30 enclosure for it, and bam, for what it woulda cost you for another 20 gigs internal, you just got 200 external.

AND its portable, easier and faster to transfer to your desktop or to a friends computer if they have usb2 or firewire....its just a more well rounded solution in my opinion.....not to mention when the seagate first comes out its going to be @$$ expensive!

hmmm so ur sayin that the seagate would be more expensive than the hitachi ? hmmphh...... dunno... i guess ill just wait till first week of august and if the seagate still doesnt release then ill just get the hitachi.....

btw getting the external drive defeats the purpose of having my laptop, i.e. portability. though i get ur drift

thanks
