Hitachi HDD... any good?

I got a new 500GB Hitachi HDD for my new build (Black Friday deal...) and am wondering how good it is compared to WD and Seagate. I'm considering another drive (maybe a RAID setup) and wonder if it's worth getting another or just going with WD... I'm not worried so much about speed, rather reliability. I don't see very many Hitachis in folks builds...

Doesn't really matter which brand you pick, they will all fail.
Right not, you will get people saying stay away from X, since Y never failed, and then other people will say stay away from Y, X never failed.
In the end, just keep backups of your important data, and just get whatever brand is on sale.

Wd black is probably the most reliable, but they are also pretty loud. There's nothing wrong with hitachi, though they sold their hd division to western digital about a year ago.

It's a fine drive. I have plenty of them in my rigs. Power consumption is one of the best in the industry. Relatively quiet as well.

Only con is speed and latency. Not the best.

Speaking of reliability, I have a good record with Hitachi, actually. I have a few drives manufactured in October 2003, still running fine. No bad blocks.

Hit or miss, really.

I see a lot of that on Newegg reviews... :sneaky: That's why I thought I would ask here instead.
