Hitachi HD OEM

Question:

I bought an OEM Hitachi 160GB SATA HD from newegg and it arrived today. It came simply as the drive wrapped in some bubble wrap. Nothing else.

The drive is HERE

I intend to install it this weekend. This is my first time doing this so i'm wondering if there is anything else i need? Do i need to get any screws, drivers, brackets, cables or anything else from the store before hand?

Thanks for your help.

When newegg says its an oem it means its a bard drive and not the retail version. Your going to need a serial ata cables and screws to secure it to your case. Your motherboard should have came with serial ata cables along with a power adapter. looks like this

Yes. You do. Since it's SATA you need SATA cables. They should come with the motherboard, if it supports it.

There should be a jumper on it and you would need screws unless you have some...

Not sure about drivers because I've never installed SATA before but google/anandtech it out.

cool thanks for the replies... MOBO came with the cable and i think i have the correct power adapter from the case... the only thing left then would be the screws... any idea if this takes some sort of "special" scews or will the short ones that came with the case probably work?

Also, jzimo, what is "bard drive" ?

Dieselfrog, will you be installing XP on this drive? I believe you will need sata drivers. My MSI motheboard came with a sata driver disk. What motherboard do you have?

You don't need a SATA power cable for this drive. Just use a 4 pin connector...

either one of the other, not both

My motherboard is here: MOBO

And yes, i will be installing XP on this drive. This will be my only hard drive and i will just have one other optical drive.

What "things" come with a bulk Hard Drive such as this one?:
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160 GB 6Y160M0

Also, I planned to buy a MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum with a Maxtor SATA 160 GB OEM. You are saying that you need SATA cables (or 4 pin connector, I don't know.. not a professional in hardware) and screws. Are these things included in the MoBo (in this one.. the Neo 2)?

Your case should have came with a box of screws (unless it was a name brand computer). If not, I'm sure you can go to a local computer store and they may even give you some for free.

Since there's no shop near my house with the case I planned to buy.. I'll just buy it Bulk or Retail....

Are the needed cables in the MoBo?

Your motherboard should have come with a wide-flat IDE cable and maybe SATA (thin, red) cable if your motherboard supports it.

The 4 pin power connector is from your power supply. If you have a drive that only supports SATA-power then you may need an adapter unless your power supply has it already. Some motherboards do come with the adapter though.

and the screws usually come with the case.

IIRC, the nForce 3 chipset doesn't need to have drivers installed for XP to recognize the volume.

Okay. I saw the manual of the hard drive. So I need a SATA cable (normally in the MoBo) and a 4 pin power connector (from the PSU).

Take a look at this: http://www.msicomputer.com/pro..._Platinum&class=mb

The accessories are at the bottom of the page. So, is it correct for the SATA cable?

Here now: http://www.antec.com/specs/true430_spe.html#

So the PSU included in the case have SATA connector. Is it correct?

Sorry to bother you like that, but I wanna be sure cause I'm ordering online and I don't want to have a surprise when I'll receive the parts.

However if you plan to install WinXP on the SATA drive, you WILL need the driver disk.
