Hitachi Hard Drive

Got the 80 gig version. No complaints here & before Maxtor's DiamondMax 10 & possibly Seagate's 7200.8, it was the fastest (overall) 7200 RPM hard drive series you could get.

I have that exact same drive. It is awesome. I literally can't hear it (AT ALL). If a Seagate is any quieter, well that is pointless because I can't hear this one in the first place. My eVGA 6800 Ultra is louder. It is very fast and somehow it gives me temp readings on itself.

It is a really nice drive and it was cheap. It was a great buy I think. Also it can use a Molex connector or SATA power

Hitachi drives are very quiet and so far I have had a good experience with them. Although, it is only a mobile drive in my laptop. 😱

From the looks of StorageReview's review it has good transfer rates. And for large video files transfer rate is more important then seek speed.

I have that same HDD, but the retail version. I am very pleased with it. However for video editing Hitachi makes a special version called the 7k400 Inside the firmware is a special mode just for editing DV.

Thanks all. I like the 400 gb, but i don't need that much space. I figured the 250 gb because it doesn't cost that much, but it has a lot of space. Oh, and the other thing i was wondering, does it run too hot....i really don't have room for a HDD cooler, so i need to know. I won't be using it for DV editing everyday, but i know it will be running anyway. Thanks.

I know you do not need that much space, the one thing that 7k400 has that 7k250 does not have besides an extra 150gb is A special mode for DV, 7k400 is desighned for DV Editing where as 7k250 was not.

400GB should be enough to store an Operating system, installed programs, and 20 hours of Video. But like you said you dont need that much, I just recomend the 7k400 for ITS "DV Mode" only.
