Hitachi Feature Tool on WD drives?

SONYFX

My hard drive is making annoying vibration and someone told me to try Hitachi?s AAM in its feature tool. Has anyone used this on WD drives (500GB)? Will this reduce the vibration without hampering the performance too much or this just reduces the hard disk noise? I don?t mind the seek noise but the vibration that it send through the case is killing me. Thanks!

The IBM Drive Fitness TEst (DFT) used to work on any brand of drive. I don't know if this is still true. WD should have its own equivalent.

Anyway - try it and see. The worst that can happen is a message telling you it won't work.

But, you are referring to the tool that reduces the drive noise. Less noise can = less performance. This is a good read:

AAM

You can also reduce vibration through the case by using a thin rubber strip - or, mount the drive with Velcro in some instances.
