hitachi dvd-rom not reading dvd-r

Now, I have a 3 year old hitachi gd-5000 dvd-rom, it won't read anything i burned on sony dru-510a, i am using dvd-r by the way...

Looked arounf, and some people have the same problem, now the question is will firmware upgrade fix this? anyone with the same problem?

A firmware upgrade may fix it. Or it may not. Check out the manufacturer's site and find out if they have a newer firmware available and what issues it fixes. It is also possible you need a newer DVD-ROM drive. They are pretty inexpensive.
