Hitachi Deskter 160mb SATA problems

Well my brothers 160gb Deskter wont load an OS after 3 months of use and needs to be RMA'd. My brother needs his computer back fast. I have a 120gb Maxtor 7200rpm ata/133 2mb cache hd here than i can put in for him. Will he notice a difference. He doesnt want to wait for the rma. I mean he hardly plays games and surfs the net alot and junk like that even though he has a64 and 9700pro.


UPDATE: The problem with the 160gb drive is right at the os splash screen the computer reboots. I then try to reload the os and when it say scanning hds or checking disks. It takes like 1 hour. I then try to reinstall or delete the old partition and it wont let me.Whats wrong? The computer ran fine for 3 months. Think its busted

he probably just notice a diffrence in loadting times for the most part, unless he does like big file transfer, he'll probably notice a slow down in that too.

Remember, loading an OS on SATA drives requires special considerations. Make sure you have thoroughly checked the FAQ on the drive mfr's web site and tested the drive with Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test before attempting to RMA the drive. Also, most drive makers will cross-ship with a CreditCard number for security.

Hmm. I didnt use there fitness test. Do i need to. I undetsrand the considerations. It wont instal!!!! I load the drivers and all and half the time it hangs after saying finding drive or partion. Then it finally comes up and i cant delete it or put anything on it. The hd is f'ed i think
