What are your opinions on these two monitors?

If you went with the Hitachi lineup, is the CM772 worth the extra $ compared to the CM771?

Perhaps you think another brand would be superior. I'm looking to spend $400-$450 here.

I have the Hitachi Superscan Elite 751 (discontinued I think) which is 19 inches, and couldn't be happier with it. I think its comparable to the less expensive model you're looking at because it isn't flatscreen like the more expensive one.

Hitachi makes good quality monitors, but make sure to check out a review before you get it

the 771 is flatscreen, using hitachi's properity technology, which doesnt have those damn lines going through it

WERD! I have two Hitachi CM 771's for dual display. I love these guys. Only problems might be on the corners... but I heard all flat monitors have some problems with the corners. Nothing really noticeable unless you stare at them. Like on the right side, there's a slight dimple... stuff like that. No biggie...

i like my acer 77e, its a cheap 17" monitor which is semi-flat, not totally flat, so the corners look just as good as the rest of the monitor

I replaced an Iiyama 450 with the CM771, and love it! Once you get it "tweaked" to fill the screen, it is solid as a rock and runs cool as well. I see no observable problems in the corners either.
