UECWeb has a super deal on this DLP HDTV monitor. It also includes a matching stand, a spare lamp, and one year factory warranty. White glove delivery is about $200.

UECWeb typically sell refurbished Hitachi products. But this one appears to be new as it carries a one-year warranty as opposed to the 30-day one that comes with refurbished products.

That TV is crap. The original MSRP was around 12,000, but they couldn't sell any because of poor picture quality. The current generation of DLPs from Samsung is a better way to go, but of course it costs more.

If you are looking at that price point, there is a relatively new Panasonic LCD RPTV that should look better than that Hitachi.

Try avsforum.com before you buy. There is a ton of information about these TVs there.

I feel sorry for anyone who bought this, with no DVI output with HDCP, they will be watchin 480i broadcasts in 12+ months.

Back in stock.

The Hitachi is based on HD-1 chip, as Samsung HLM and HLN series.

Nonsense. So you're saying that anyone with component inputs will only get 480i output from HDCP protected boxes? While I agree I wouldn't go without DVI input it's for technical reasons, not because of copy protection issues.

May not be a good deal, but you won't be only seeing 480i only for a LONG while. This TV will be dead by that time. They aren't going to alienate their customer base by screwing them with HDCP in the short term.

have any of you guys actually SEEN the samsung??? it has some MAJOR color issues... especially w/ greens. floor models at tweeter, bb and i think even cc looked like crap. im currently in the market for a new tv and the new sony lcd is looking really nice (as long as it is as good or better than last years model, KF-60XBR800).

WRONG! Samsung uses the HD-2 chip. They never used the HD-1.

Yes, I own the 61" Samsung. Garbage in = Garbage out. All the stores you mention typically run one feed to many TVs. In addition, the TVs are rarely tweaked to the proper setting.

I can say that mine looks great, but if you like the LCD better, go for it. At the time, I was deciding between the GWII (KF-60XBR800) and the Sammy. The Sammy was better for me. I would definitely shy away from this Hitachi, though.

Have to step in here as another Samsung HLN617W owner - I LOVE this set - I see sooo many folks bashing it for many issues, but alas, I have none... Just a great picture!!!

And yes, it's HD-2.

But the mention of LCD is also something you want to look at - some folks prefer a 'softer' picture (LCD), instead of a sharper one (sharper usually highlights garbage in / garbage out a bit more...)

I was misinformed. Samsung HLM and HLN are equipped with HD-2, which is supposed to have higher contrast ratio than the first generation. Typically HD-2 has a contrast ratio of 1000:1, as stated in Samsung and Panasonic HD-2 DLP HDTV. In comparison, HD-1 based HDTV is in the 400-500:1 range.
