I can not change the resolution on my Hitachi projection from the 600x480, whether I use it as the secondary or even if I use only that (as the main monitor). I have updated my Radeon 8500 drivers, but does anyone have an idea on why I cant get this to change resolutions?

And I have to have my monitor set on 600x480 also in order to have both the tv and monitor on at the same time. Is this my video card not handling my tv? Should I get a different video card?

I would REALLY appreciate some help on this, since it is very annoying to have 1/2 a foot icons on my tv and only see 1/4 of a web page when the browser's menus take up the other 3/4!!

By the way, I'm using DVI connection

Thanks

I am not sure about this... but I think only the 9xxx series supports HDTv resolutions for ATi. Check out avsforums or something.

Hey thanks a lot for the info, I appreciate it. I wasn't aware of that forum. I might give a Radeon 9000 series a shot and see if that corrects it.

That would be the last thing I would use for video card!

I have a Radeon DDR outputting 1920x1080i to my 65" HDTV. The 8500 can handle it just fine :).

Hmm, you should either have display drivers for your Hitachi, or Windows should use Plug and Play and then default to your displays native resolution.

Composite or SVideo cable cannot transmit HDTV. This, in fact, is the whole point about it - the old cabling and transmission standards do not allow for high resolutions. Hence you get 640x480 on NTSC and 768x576 on PAL.

Radeon 9500 and higher can use ATi's HDTV "component output" dongle, and run a HDTV display properly, with high resolutions up to 1080i.

The 8500 should be perfectly fine for your HDTV via DVI output. Take a look at Powerstrip to get non-standard resolutions. You can get an exact resolution by the pixel.

Right, if the HDTV takes RGB through DVI, then any Radeon with recent drivers will do. If you need "component" signal, you'll need at least a 9500 along with ATi's DVI-Component dongle.

The dongle will work perfectly well with the 8500 series of cards. You will want to search around on avsforums.com to make sure you are using the correct resolution. Also be aware that even with the ATI dongle, you will be limited to certain resolutions when viewing DVDs (but not other sources) because of DSS. If anyone out there knows, will this restriction still apply even if you are viewing ripped VOBs on your hard drive (which have obviously been ripped using DeCSS)?
