To make this an even better deal: if you are buying two, you should be able to find a $10 off coupon one of the many coupon sites.

I think it's a very good deal for no rebates.
$92.5 for 250GB = $0.38/GB
$175 for 500 = $0.35/GB

Fairly quiet, Fastest (among 7200RPM), and very reliable (0 out 12 failed in my experience) :p

There are coupons for $10 off $150 on your favorite coupon site, so
1 x 250GB drive for $92.5
2 x 250GB drive for $92.5 x 2 = $185 - $10 = $175 with no rebates.

Hot deal for me! Especially since my hard drive started crashing yesterday. Lost my D partition :-(! Nice deal with no rebates, I'm in for one.

Edit: Rasputin, you're a bit of a hard drive hawk aren't you? I searched hard drives in hot deals and half the posts are from you! Thanks again bud. Much appreciated.

Ordered this one a week ago and the damn things went out of stock. They still haven't shipped mine. Aarrgghhhh! I need a new drive stat before this one completely fails. Gonna have to go B&M I think.

Keep in mind hitachi (and all 7200rpm deskstar drives, historically) run hot. that's the primary reason for premature failure with these drives. If you just put them behind an intake fan they should offer you years of trouble-free runtime.

I've also noticed they're sensitive to power. If you have an ACORP 300-watt power supply or some crap like that, you might want to consider replacing it. I've seen crappy power supply's kill Seagates, WD, Maxtors and Hitachi's alike just because of dirty fluctuating power.

I'd say Hitachi's are very reliable. I accidentally zapped my 160gb deskstar and it still works. It was just wiped clean (most of which I was able to recover), but the drive still works.

The first question in my mind was, "What's the general thought of the probability you'll get something you order from buy.com." :p

Same thing here...I think I'm about to order from ZZF as they have the same drive for $101 with free 2-day shipping.

Well I finally gave up and bought a new hard drive at Best buy about a week and a half ago. Buy.com is still sending me emails telling me the drives are backordered. However when I go out to their website, lo and behold the drives are showing in stock! That cheesed me off something major. Either they're giving me the shaft because the price was a mistake, or anybody who orders the drive is going to get screwed into the same back order bs I'm in. I'm giving them another couple days because the price was good, but if I don't see it shipepd I'm cancelling the order and never ordering from them again. Not to mention a nasty little resellerratings comment.

i love mine. Its very fast and supports SATA II, i can hear it when its working hard but my case is very quiet (undervolted 120mm fans), but its still the quietest drive i ever had.

Well I checked my email later that evening and it looks like it finally shipped. Unfortunately I couldn't wait any longer since my drive was making sounds like a clankety old bicycle. So it looks like I might actually see this drive. I guess I will use it for something, you can never have too much storage. My psu is a little overloaded right now however so I may swap out the 120gb I've got, for this one. I can use the 120gb as a spare or for backups I suppose. I hope yours is finally on the way as well Blue.
