Dunno if this has been posted yet or not (didn't find it in my search), but outpost.com has the hitachi 250GB drive with 8mb cache (PATA) for $249 - $120 MIR- $20 MIR = $109.

Link

$109 is a pretty good deal, but the $140 in rebates is high.... This is a better deal then the Maxtor 250GB that was available recently.

<edit> Price dropped, now $109 instead of $119!

Good find looks like a $10 drop to 249.99/109.99 after rebates.

I have a question. Does Fry honor outpost deals at their stores? Say if I go to the Frys with this printout, will they let the drive go at this price?

Not on hitachi it doesn't, and that's exactly what I want. The hottest deal on Hitachi is 100 AR, 100 or 110 doesn't really make much difference to me since I need the drive now.

3 year -- HOT! Time to ditch my 120s. And East Coast (non-Fry's) friendly to boot!

Good deal, thanks! I noticed the $20 rebate must be postmarked within 10 days of purchase! I wonder if this is enough time, since you have to wait for the hd to even arrive to do the rebate.

Great deal, thanks OP!
Does anyoone knows the level of noise of this drive? Is it as quiet as a maztor or noisier than a WD?
Haven't heard too many good feedback on IBM hd, is this one better in term of reliabillity since it's an Hitachi?

You'll have to check out storagereview if you want info about noise. Check out the performance database.

Rebate is *not* from New Rochelle nor from TCA.

rebate goes to White Bear Lake, MN. not too sure who handles those rebates, but from what i've read recently, TCA has shaped up and it's parago/rebateshq that you have to watch out for. they've been denying ppl rebate for not having an email address and other B$ reasons.

Hm... went to Frys, asked them if they can pricematch to outpost since it appears those two are run together. However manager said they are not affiliated in any way, so he cannot pricematch it... :( Anybody knows if it's true? And if it's true, then why the heck does outpost has Frys logo on the main page?

BTW, if you notice, the rebates say the envelopes must be postmarked within ten days of the purchase - that's pretty tight, IMO. I'll probably order one on monday morning, so that it'll be shipped the same day at noon.

The larger rebate mentions purchases from both Outpost and Fry's. However, the smaller rebate only says its valid if purchased from Fry's. Since people above are saying they aren't really directly affiliated, will they even honor the smaller rebate if purchased from outpost?

He's full of it! Right on the top of every page it says FRY'S Electronics Outpost.com.

Just trying to dodge a PM.

Couldn't pay me enough money to get suckered into another IBM drive... The 30 gigger I had died a horrible premature death, just outside of warranty.

Sh!t happens, and all drives regardless of mfg. will die at some point.

$140 in rebates is a little scary, but I've never had a big problem with rebateshq, so I'm in for one.

Yes, the keyword is: ALL IBM drives die at a very early point.

Not true. IBM drives were phenomenal before the deathstar 75GXP series, and since they sold their drive manufacturing division(s) to Hitachi supposedly quality control has gotten even better. The 'scare' spread from one bad batch of drives to the rest of their drive line, and they've had a bad reptuation since then. With a 3-year warranty, honestly, what are you so worried about?
