This Hitachi 250GB hard drive is in the Best Buy 3/27-4/02 circular listed for $99.99 AR. When I look it up online (item 6942302) it shows as $161.99 with 2 $40 MIRs. Order online for in-store pickup and the total price (excluding tax since that varies) is $81.99 AR. Add in the $10 off each $100 purchase from here for $71.99 AR/AC.

Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 250.0GB Internal Ultra ATA Hard Drive Model: H3250B72S
3 year warranty

EDIT: Looks like they changed the online price back to $179.99, eliminating the $161.99 price, so total is now $99.99 AR or $89.99 AR/AC - not as hot. Thanks for the heads-up on the price change Cruez!

Wow, I was going to head down to BB to pick it up at the LISTED price... what was I thinking?

Thanks again allisolm! I'm checking it out now.

hot hot hot. I was going to pick up a WD 250gb for 79.99+tax, nevermind that. This one has a 3 yr warranty, over the WD 1 yr.

How come the rebates say "Bell Microproducts", but in the rebate forms themselves they say "brand: Hitachi"??

Huh that's weird... .the actual form does say brand: Hitachi, but there's a product number mismatch.

The BB site lists it as H3250B72S, the rebate lists it as H3250B72P Could it be referring to the SATA version.... I don't know.

Really the only thing that concerns me.... will the rebate go through?

I wonder if that could cause some problems with the rebates... well, if the best buy site says they're good, then they should be, right? The only difference is the P and S at the end of the model #.

OK, so the model # on the rebate doesn't match... but look, the SKU does. I think that's a good sign.

Don't know but maybe it's because Bell is the marketer/distributor for Hitachi in the US.

"Bell Microproducts markets and distributes more than 150 brand name product lines... to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), contract electronic manufacturing services (EMS) customers, value-added resellers (VARs) and system integrators in the Americas and Europe."

Called them up. Apparently the rebates department is closed. The guy from the BB.com department acknowledged that it says Bell Microproducts, and that the model number on the rebate is different. He didn't seem to be very sure, but said the UPC/SKU is the most important factor in determining the rebate, and that "model number is not really important"

If I recall correctly, applicable rebates now print out on your receipt at BB. It's been awhile so I have forgotten, when you order online and pick up in-store, do you get a store generated receipt? If the rebates show up there, you should be golden.

Usually, whatever errors the form contains, if the SKU matches, you get it. If you look at the expired forms, they too are for the P model and BB doesn't even sell it.

Ya know, it amazes me that places like best buy can get away with clearly advertising something like this for an after $80 rebate price & mess up the forms as if to say if we want an out on the rebates we've got one.

Really get's me. :|

Calm down everybody.
(1) SKU/UPC is all that matter on a rebate form.
(2) If you order online to pickup, you will not get a store generated receipt. Just call them and have them hold one, which they may not do if you get a penis-face on the phone.

Having them hold one won't do any good since:
1. The $10 off is only good for bestbuy.com purchases.
2. The in-store price might not be $161.99 since the ad says $179.99.
3. If it isn't the same price, my BB doesn't price match online prices.

Thanks fbrdphreak for the info on the store receipt. I haven't ordered online for in-store pickup in awhile.

3 yr warranty. Now thats the ticket. Anyone know how I can use my giftcard instead of my credit card online. or can I use the 10 off in store somehow?

Dont jump on the wagon too soon buddy. 3 yrs warranty under the brand Hitachi doesn't mean much to me. Hitachi/IBM drives did not even last me the whole year. The 3 yrs warranty should mean, sending back to the manufacture at least 3 times before the warranty expires. Thats what it means. It is safer to go with WD with 1 year warranty unless your data doesn't mean much to you

I'd pick it up, but there's too much $ floating around in rebates. I guess I'll just pick one up on the forums.

So dethman, are you telling us you bought a hitachi drive (not ibm) in the last few years and had to replace it 2 times during the warranty? I'm sure we all want to hear about it.
BTW should I boycott seagate drives because I bought a 4096 (96 megabyte drive ) about 15 years ago that screwed me over. Damn them for making high quality inexpensive drives now.

just to comment on Hitachi rebates over WD like the guy just stated...

Hitachi has odd shipping requirments to RMA a drive.

Western Digital offers free advanced replacement, meaning they send you the drive before you send them your broken one. You even get a preprinted shipping label and packing/box.

Hitachi, you need special foam, special sized boxes etc or your shipment will be rejected.

I would rather get a WD or Seagate drive. Segate also does advanced replacement and has a 5 year warranty.
