Hitachi 250 GB SATA HD $99.99 AR

I dont trust Hitachi/Deskstar after I had 2 Deskstar drives die out and IBM wouldnt warranty them.

I trashed them and then the lawsuit began.

Double Never Again. Hitachi should sue IBM for selling them a bad reputation.
 
They got sued for their rebate problems selling items they knew the manufacturer was not going to honor the rebate. They should be on thier best behaviour now.

They claimed they didnt honor my rebate because your supposed to register the device before they will. It did not say that on the rebate and they never honored it when I did register. I hope they chap 11.
 
the rebate is from hitachi, so nothing to worry about with crapusa

it goes to miami

no mention of a guarantee so there probably isn't one, but you can buy a 1 or two year
 
I will never own another Mad Dog product. Ever. Burn me over $20.00 and lose a customer for life. They should know better than to mess around with rebate customers because I dont hesitate to steer anyone away for my $20.00 loss. As well everyone else burned by them I am sure does and feels the same. They look at it as hey we saved another $20.00 but they havent sold me and my friends another item since.

As for rebates its real easy.
1- Print Clearly
2- Attach an Address label on the Envelope, Rebate, Receipt, and UPC. You can either print them yourselves of get a roll for about 5.00 for something like 1000 labels. They have no excuse then for not being able to read your handwriting or any of the labels with the same information all over the place.
3- If its a large rebate its only like 30 cent to a buck to get a confirmation of delivery from the post office.

With that they dont have a leg to refuse your rebate. And I have had 99% success rate on rebates this way. That 1% is mad dog.

I will say I did have to call about a rebate with syntax after 4 months of it being on approved status. But they were curtious and did not deny my rebate and got it out immediately.
 
FYI
I was at CompUSA today (Marlton, NJ). The Hitachi 250GB I saw in the case was a PATA drive NOT a SATA. :-(
It was listed on sale for $89.

Yeah, BOTH the PATA And SATA are deals this week. As far as what's on the shelf, don't go by that. When they had an amazing deal on the 250G PATA a few months ago, there were NONE on the shelf, although there was one SATA in the spot labeled for the PATA. I didn't notice it was the wrong drive, but of course the checkout clerk did. But they spent about 20 minutes seaching for some SATA drives which WERE listed in their inventory. They got me one "from the back room." (And they put more on the shelf.) Now, even by the standards of CompUSA, this one had an IMMENSE sales floor. It is hard to imagine them having a back room with much in it. Maybe some one left them in the john for "safe-keeping"

They also stack stuff way up on high shelfs in unrelated areas, so just because there are none by the label, don't be put off; ASK! Last week I saw ten more of the Antec PS's that were on sale up on a far-away, unreachable, high shelf.

They also give out "rain-checks" now. I don't remember them ever offering before. They would say: all sold out; and that was it. The salesman said they will give you the price after rebate on the spot, if the item comes in after the valid rebate time.

 
just to answer a question, i got the ata drive a couple weeks ago at best buy for 50 AR. an insert in the box said that all deskstar products with 8mb cache have a 3 year warranty. so, this drive would have a 3 year warranty, too. just fyi.

.... and the 7k250 was the fastest of last generation's drives... I have 4 of these runnning and I will say - they are quite fast.
