I do not trust hitachi after they wouldnt warrranty 2 drives less than a year old trying to claim they were oem drives. Hitachi is dead to me.

I used to work for a small shop in my area, and I swear the owner would order things from wherever he could squeeze a penny out. In some instances, he ended up receiving refurbished parts. I would guess it is quite possible that some dealer could've gotten their hands on parts that were intended for Compaq or some other OEM. I just know I buy OEM drives all the time and buy specifically drives with the longest warranty possible. I would assume by them claiming OEM, they meant that they were intended for a system builder (such as Compaq) and not for resale by a dealer (such as newegg)?

Just curious, as I am considering a purchase of a TB drive (or two) in the future.

How do you know they were not OEM drives? Most Newegg drives are OEM. A lot of places sell OEM drives, and the warranty on them oftentimes is shorter.

You can check the warranties of your Hitachi drives yourself, right here.

The Hitachi's do well against the other big names. They aren't usually outstanding in terms of performance, but mostly somewhat even.
