There's a new ad in rotation on the main site that's called "Hit The Target And Win". As you can expect, it uses flash to let you "shoot" at a target in a banner space. It's not too anoying(Punch the monkey is still worse), but it seems "low" for AnandTech. I hope this is just a fluke, and not the future of AT?

Seen on: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1756&p=8
Banner takes you to: http://www.americangiveaways.com
Banner source: http://network.realmedia.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_sx.ads/anandtech/ros/ron/tch/ss/a@Position1?

Looking at the banner source, it leads to a rotation that includes another shooting game, along with a talking ad "my face, your voice", and the shaking "clock error message". I believe this sucker is the source of most of our anoying ads. The ones that give you a "prize" are run by Synergy6 if anyone cares; they're harvesting email addresses for "providing special marketing offers to consumers by e-mail and other advertising methods".

Edit: Ok, how's this. One of the ads in the rotation from the "source" link above asks you to "choose a free sample". You get to choose between lipstick and a condom(I have a picture if requested). Anyone want to take a bet that this too is in the rotation?

I don't see the big problem, most of the people in this forums probably don't even know what a condom is ;)

Oh and that mole game is actually kinda fun :)

I've never been one to complain really, I know that the ads are needed to pay for the great forums.

But I really don't like the one with the woman that yells out of my speakers "Don't break up with your boyfriend, let me do it for you"

Then try explaining to your grandparents or parents who don't understand computers that you don't really have a boyfriend and you two aren't having relationship trouble :|

Well, I got some confirmation of the condom ad being seen on AT itself, here. This really needs to be taken care of. I can't visit a site like AT at work/school/not-bedroom if there's going to be ads with condoms in them.

Thing that annoys me is that you "win" whether you hit the target/punch the bully/smack the weiner or not.

I think it should be considered false advertising to offer a prize for something but you get that "prize" whether you win or lose. At the end of the day, the real motive is harvesting e-mail addresses and they try to conceal that motive as best they can.

Hi Everyone.

The problem is with one of our campaigns, 24-7 RealMedia. They have a stream for their advertisements that help pay for the forums. The problem is they have a tendancy to put advertisements in this slot that we have no approved. Currently, their campaign has been suspended. Until some of the communication issues we have been having with 24-7 are fixed they will continue to be suspended as well.

Please feel free to email Kristopher, kkubicki at anandtech dot com, of any specificly annoying ads you see now or in the future.

Thank you much!
