Well this is a new one to me.

I live near and work in the city, DC. Yesterday I decided to drive to work since I had to pick up my cat from the vet, well after an allready long and crappy day I was on my way home stopped in the left most lane going up a hill waiting to take a left turn when all of a sudden out of nowhere I see this rogue inflated tire on a rim heading right for my car next to this truck.

There was literally nothing I could do because I was stuck at this light and I saw it two seconds before it "grazed" my car I just saw this big white truck and next to it this tire on a rim bouncing down the road. At first I thought I was in the clear cause it made it halfway past my car without hitting it, but low and behold as soon as it got to the rear drivers quarter all I heard was a big whack. Left some nice scratches and a slight crease in my back quarter.

Needless to say I was pissed, pulled over and waited to see if someone would claim the tire thinking that if you lost it you might need it, however no one showed, some passer by said I was lucky that was all it did, I told him to screw.

sucks, what does one do about a tire, guess I have to live with it cause insurance wont do crap for that, not enough damage, oh well never buying another "new" car in the city that is for sure.

thanks for reading my rant

I saw a tire do that once except it didn't hit anyone. It went pretty far for not having a car attached to it.

I saw that same thing happen except the tire came off an Escort or something and slammed into the side of a new Lexus....Ouch!

As kids we use to push tires down the hill just to see how far they would go. Check out the nearby hills and look for kids.

I've heard of a tire coming off of a trailer, crossing the median, and smacking the front of an oncoming car. But the best story is when a plane (727-737 size) lost a tire, it bounced over a freeway, then demolished a car in a parking lot on the other side.

Yeah, that sucks.....but actually the guy was right......you were LUCKY! I was sriving on an interstate in MO about 2 years ago and saw a tire and whell come off a Semi going "normal" speed.....about 75mph.......the tire crossed the median and struck an oncoming car head-on, bounced up and landed directly on the driver side of the windshield..........it KILLED the guy! I can imagine you were "pissed".....but it could have been worse......:(

If I say please, can I have my tire back?

I wish you good luck with your insurance. I hope your deductible isn't too big or anything.

I once got hit by a big chunk of ice that fell off a truck as I was driving down the freeway. It left a small crease in the door and took off the paint, but I was lucky. It was just a loaner car from the dealer and I didn't tell them.:) I was able to drop off the car at night so they never saw it, or at least they didn't see it at the time.

My grandmother's car was totaled by a set of dualies that came off an oncoming log truck. It came at her bouncing, one hop landed squarely on the hood, & then it bounced over the passenger compartment. She's damned lucky to have survived it.

Seems to happen every day on dIe-95 in S. Florida.

Bad luck for you but could have been worse. Down here we have had pieces of pipe go through windshields and pin people to seats.

Was riding around 285 here in Atlanta one nice sunny day going about 70mph when a tire comes bouncing towards me. Just the tread of the tire, no sidewall, no wheel. I'm thinking, "Oh sh!t, this thing is gunna smack me square in the middle of my hood!" Cars on both sides of me so I couldn't move over. I just kinda cheated to the left a little bit, and it hit the front pass. side of my bumper and continued up and hit my pass. side fender and went on it's merry way down the interstate. A few decent size scratches, no dents or anything.

The thing that really pissed me off was that I had the front end repainted no more than a month earlier from an accident, and that tire just went and ruined it.
