Hit and run

My gf's parked car had her bumper taken out last night by a hit and run. We luckily got the license plate and called the police who then had the car located within 10 minutes.

The damage isn't that bad really but the girl driving the car did go to jail. Is this normal for a hit and run or would she have had to be doing something else to go to jail too? This is in Illinois btw.

how did u get the license plate?

Hit and run is a felony. You don't take off from the scene of an accident, no matter how minor you think it is. She's going to be kicking herself for a long long time.

They stopped to pick the piece of plastic bumper up and took it with them. They then had to wait to pull out of the driveway because of traffic and we were able to see it.

This was at 2am in the morning, lucky we jumped up when we heard it get hit.

good job on the hit and run capture man! Happy to hear that the girl went to jail too! Someone ran into my car a night, drove off and blah! I found out the next day. IT was a small dent though.

Lucky you caught them, and glad to hear that they got caught by the police!

Wow, I guess she can't use the "I didn't realize I hit someone" excuse then 😛

Or the "I don't know what I was thinking, I was so upset" excuse. They hit the car, then made a calculated decision to try to remove evidence. A felony is deserved here, IMO.

I know someone who hit an occupied car, ran away and when the police came looking for him two weeks later all he got charged with is taking an improper turn, what he would have been charged with had he stayed around.

And that's exactly why people continue to run...even though the penalty for doing so is high, it's not always enforced, which makes it worth the risk. *sigh*.

nice catch!

I always like the story of the hit and run where the dudes license plat number was embedded into the victims car. LOL PWNED
