Technically, isn't this a Hit and Skip. Hit & Run is when you injure someone, isn't it? Either way, that sucks man.

Isn't that just two ways of saying the same thing?

I thought there was a slight difference, but not really sure.

I don't think a Hit & Run means someone has to be injured.

Damn, that's gouged up pretty good. Looks like your bumper has been painted before.

You might try some paint cleaner, you could probably remove most of those marks with it and touch up the gouges. To make it look right though you will need to have the bumper repainted.

From a legal perspective, there may be two different charges (and probably neither of them called hit and run). But in normal conversation, it's just hitting someone or something with your car....and then leaving.

Leaving the scene of an accident. Non-reporting of an accident.
Punishable in most states, I believe. Most with fines, except Illinois. They make you sit through a back-to-back showing of All Came Polly and Gigli.

Brrrr.

Seriously, is there any part of the street monitored by a street cam? Or do you think anyone (those who live or work on that street) would know who drives a car with the paint scrapings from your bumper?

Unfortunately not... it's a pretty busy area with a high rate of tourists, etc. so that's very doubtful. I wish I'd caught the motherfvcker in the act... THAT would've been fun.

sigh. with damage like that, considering the cost to fix it would probably be under my deductible, the best thing to do is go out of pocket.

i don't know how to fix it. i personally would probably leave it there until someone smacks me again on that side and actually leaves at note.

damn you LA people who run. i have scratches on both sides of my rear bumper and a ding on my front bumper. at least they're just surface and not as deep as that though. 🙁

It could of been worst, I know someone that got hit and run overnight, someone slammed into the side of the car in an angle, ripped his DOOR completely off, and fleed the scene.

same thing happened to me. it tore a chunk out of my bumper. No way for me to buff it out or repaint it. Luckily the car was a POS and I ended up selling it. Still pissed me off BIG time. Hit and Runners should be strung up, no jury, no trial, just straight to execution.

I was sitting in a parked vehicle when a lady backed into me and drove off. Called 911 immediately with her license plate number and they met up with her just as she was getting home. I wouldn't have minded the damage to the car, but my wife was 5 months pregnant at the time and sitting in the car when we were hit. Like the lady didn't notice that she hit a car, and then ignored the fact that two people were in it at the time? And this wasn't even LA, it was DC!! (Not that it makes it any better)
