So, I'm coming back from lunch, and I'm stopped at a red light in the usual lunch traffic. It just finished raining, so the roads are quite wet. All of a sudden I hear the screeching of tires, and I look up in my rearview mirror to see an old red chevy car, tires squeeling, trying to stop. He doesn't stop in time, my car rocks forward a bit, and I feel like killing him. Well, he doesn't give me time. He slams it in reverse, back into drive, and peels out in the lane next to me, runs a red light, and he's gone. Of course, he didn't get away before I got his license plate number.
I get back to work, and assess the damage. There's not much, just a few scratches and dents on the lower part of my bumper, nothing $50 won't take car of. The question is, should I call the cops on him or not. Part of me wants to because it's the principle of the thing, hit and runs are illegal, and disrespectful. But the other part of me doesn't want to deal with the hassle of it. $50 isn't a big deal to me, and I don't like dealing with the specific city cops that I'd have to deal with. Should I report him or not?
