Hit and Run

So, I'm coming back from lunch, and I'm stopped at a red light in the usual lunch traffic. It just finished raining, so the roads are quite wet. All of a sudden I hear the screeching of tires, and I look up in my rearview mirror to see an old red chevy car, tires squeeling, trying to stop. He doesn't stop in time, my car rocks forward a bit, and I feel like killing him. Well, he doesn't give me time. He slams it in reverse, back into drive, and peels out in the lane next to me, runs a red light, and he's gone. Of course, he didn't get away before I got his license plate number.

I get back to work, and assess the damage. There's not much, just a few scratches and dents on the lower part of my bumper, nothing $50 won't take car of. The question is, should I call the cops on him or not. Part of me wants to because it's the principle of the thing, hit and runs are illegal, and disrespectful. But the other part of me doesn't want to deal with the hassle of it. $50 isn't a big deal to me, and I don't like dealing with the specific city cops that I'd have to deal with. Should I report him or not?

I'd leave it at that unless you really feel like involving the cops. They'll probably just brush you off anyways. :(

BTW, was this the Supra that got hit? I hope not.... :(

Dude, call the police. Teach that fvcker a lesson!!!!!!! Tell them that you'll have to have the bumper totally painted/replaced, get the best you can for his money. THe fact that you don't want to deal with the hassel is not a good enough excuse!!! :|

Unfortunately it was the Supra, but most of the damage isn't visible unless you really look for it. Nonetheless, I'm OCD about car care, so I'll be fixing it.

What is OCD? Anyway, this is the perfect excuse to get your whole bumper professionally painted, why not take advantage of the situation?!?!?!!

A guy I know had that happen to him. He chased the guy around San Francisco (the coolest thing is he drives a Bullit Mustang) while calling the cops on his cell phone. :)

Well, I'm on the phone with the police dept. I've been on hold for 10 minutes now. I'll let you know what they decide to do.

thought this was a baseball thread... :p

happened to me once a few years back. driving my new truck and got rear ended at a light. since it was a busy intersection to get on the freeway, i motioned for her to take the first exit, and she shook her head in agreeance (she looked shocked as to what she did). made the exit, and saw her fly by. i said 'f%$k no!'. i quickly hopped back on the freeway and chased her down all the while calling my g.f at the time who was at work and giving her the plate numbers. i pulled up next to her and she shook her head like a dumbass and finally exited. when we exited, she tried to feed me some b.s. story and didnt want to go through insurance companies because she just got it with this new company (assuming thats why she bolted). my insurance agent is a family friend, and lets put it this way, i got a brand new bumper and paint, and my premiums stayed the same. i dont think i could say the same for her though...

edit: and yes i did threaten to call the cops on her for doing a hit and run and such and told her today was her lucky day. i was already super-late for work, so i just got the info, and said she'll be hearing from me soon.
